Aggiungo volentieri anch'io qualcosa.
Avevo già incontrato Stanley Greene, attraverso uno splendido suo libro: open wound.
L'interesse vero per il suo lavoro è però nato leggendo un'intervista di Jean-Francoise Leroy, curatore del Visa pour l'image di Perpignan, qualche anno fa.
Black Passport ci permette di capire bene chi è Greene.
Straordinario fotografo. Straordinario impegno.

I needed to go to Iraq. I pushed for it. Nobody would send me...
The invasion appened without me, and I thought I was gonna missing it...
Soon, it became clear to me that I had time. This war was far from over...


I was gonna do it, like they did it back then, during that other down and dirty war - on film with a Leica. Fuck the technology.
In Vietnam they all shot with Leicas: Philip Jones Griffiths had one dangling around his neck, so did Catherine Leroy, Sean Flynn, Dana Stone. Okay, a couple of nikons were knocking around, but most of them were Leicas. Larry Burrows shot that incredible color with one. It gives you such weight, makes you feel that are actually part of that generation. That is what a Leica represents to me. The M4. Gorgeous, pure and honest

I'm the one who's supposed to be photographing all the time, and now I've fallen into the trap of only photographing when I have an assignement. How stupid is that?
